ABSTRACT
This article reports on the 7th Annual Institution of Electrical Engineers/University of Wales, Newport Quality Management Lecture, held in Newport, Wales. The first lecture was given by Professor Hefin Rowlands, head of research and enterprise at University of Wales, Newport. He spoke about the implementation issues of Six Sigma in an small and medium-size enterprise and explained that its success factors are strategy, leadership, IT and planning and training. The main conclusions were that small and medium-size enterprises should use the champion to provide a strategic view of Six Sigma implementation and consider a more flexible approach to the training and deployment of black belts.
