ABSTRACT
The article presents a discussion on high staff tunrover. Australia's largest organisations are experiencing annual turnover rates as high as 15%. There are two types of turnover. Avoidable departures are when people leave because of bad management, poor training, lack of recognition, low salary and no communication about the future. Unavoidable comes when people have a child, want a career change, want to retrain or get a new degree, or when there is a death in the family. There are strategies for both types of turnover. While it seems more cost-efficient to invest in stopping avoidable departures, companies should also focus on the unavoidable.
