ABSTRACT
The article reports that EasyGroup chairman Stelios Haji-Ioannou is poised to take a slice of the pound 1 billion-a-year budget hotel market. The size of the sector was estimated by Mintel in its latest report on budget hotels and is based on 1,100 budget properties in Great Britain. With his first easyHotel, a 34-bedroom property which opened in London's Lexham Gardens, Haji- Ioannou's break-even point is pound 35 per room. The short-break specialist works with many budget brands including Days Inn, Holiday Inn by Express, Premier Travel Inn and Travelodge. The latter is opening a property every 10 days, and rival Premier Travel Inn is also expanding.
