ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the advertising spot launched by Kmart Corp. to promote its Route 66 apparel brand in the U.S. in April 1999. The television spots are built around legends surrounding the famous roadway. In a spot that broke April 18, Nascar driver Darrell Waltrip tells the tall tale of a race car bought for $10. Campbell Mithun Esty handled the campaign.
