Explaining failure

The article discusses reasons for labor movement failure in Great Britain. The main reasons for failure were organizational and social. Full-time organizers were difficult to recruit and retain, were expensive, and rapidly lost contact with the workforce once away from the factory milieu. In addition to these problems of organization were certain social issues. The union organization chairmen complained of lack of cooperation from the party mainstream. The tendency to make the Trade Unionist appear somewhat of a freak by providing a separate organization with restricted membership reinforced social prejudice.
