Dollar Tree's core offers consists of seasonal merchandise, party supplies and gift-wrap, health and beauty care items, and a convenience assortment of snacks. About 40 percent of the chain's merchandise is imported, primarily from China. The chain's gross profit margin was 33.9 percent in its first quarter, compared to a discount/variety stores' average of less that 25 percent and convenience stores' average of 28.7 percent.
