ABSTRACT
Argues that some of the propositions and assumptions of the new Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989 are not self-defining and are highly debatable. Issue concerning the failure of the U.S. to ratify the treaty as of August 1995; Significance of the treaty's emphasis on child autonomy; Concerns with the autonomy-based approach of the CRC; Some novel provisions of the CRC; Attitude of the administration of U.S. President Bill Clinton toward the CRC.
