ABSTRACT
This article highlights the growth of the affiliate service business of LinkShare Corp. and Be Free in 1999. Jerome H. Kern, new CEO of LinkShare, is talking to three cable operators about using its technology. Although Kern refused to discuss details of the negotiation with cable companies, he firmly said that LinkShare will convince them to track e-commerce through the Internet. Affiliate programs allow Web merchants to put up mini storefronts of approved sites. LinkShare and Be Free manage the traffic, transactions and tracking between them the merchants and the site owners, taking a small percentage of sales, click-throughs or any other action agreed upon in the affiliate contract.
