ABSTRACT
This article states that New York City has regained its position as the center of U.S. advertising agency creativity. The leading New York agencies are not only bigger than ever but, in contradiction to conventional wisdom, some contend that they are doing better work. Often-cited examples include McCann-Erickson Worldwide for MasterCard International, BBDO Worldwide for Snickers, Lowe & Partners/SMS for Mercedes-Benz of North America and Ogilvy & Mather for IBM Corp. and American Express Co. The city's former bratpack standouts--Deutsch, Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners--have matured. INSET: Fledgling institutions nurture NY's creatives.
