ABSTRACT
The frames chosen by the collector Fox-Strangways for the important paintings he presented to Christ Church, Oxford, in the nineteenth century provide information about how he decided to display his early Italian pictures, and a close study of a series of previously unnoticed inscriptions they bear illustrates the full extent of his taste.
