ABSTRACT
The article describes a new method based on the precipitation of urea by thioxanthen-9-ol from microdroplets in the picoliter range. Thioxanthen-9-ol was prepared by the reduction of thioxanthen-9-one with sodium borohydride. Sodium borohydride was added gradually to a stirred for a further 90 minute. The solution was filtered, passed into 500 milliliter of water and refrigerated overnight. The white precipitate of thioxanthen-9-ol was collected by filtration, washed with water, and dried. Since thioxanthen-9-ol is susceptible top oxidation in light, it was stored in a sealed brown bottle.
