ABSTRACT
This article presents information on a study which reports that a new diagnosis of asthma significantly increases the risk of being subsequently diagnosed with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). Patients newly diagnosed with asthma were 90 per cent more likely than non-asthmatics to be diagnosed with GORD, with the risk highest in the first year. In patients newly diagnosed with GORD, there was a small but non-significant rise in the risk of a subsequent asthma diagnosis, according to the study published in the journal "Chest."
