ABSTRACT
This paper aims at exploring the musical scales as presented in Risala-i Musiki by Abdurrahman Nuraddin al-Jami who lived in 15th Century. Al-Jami attempted to invent some new musical scales on the basis of the program of Maragi; nevertheless, those new invented scales have not been practiced till the present age. As to the fact that al-Jami analyzed musical scales under the headings of Maqam, Awaze and Shuba, it seems that his attempt to invent new scales remained at the theoretical level and did not create a radical change in musical paradigm.
