This study deals with the interpretation of spatial dimensions of social in classical Turkish poetry by examining the Divan by Şeyhülislam Yahya. We categorized the spaces versified by the poet through indirect or direct depiction in his work as open spaces and closed spaces. Garden, village, city, country and the world were considered as open spaces while pub, dervish lodge, palace, house, temple, school, shop, public bath, and mill were regarded as closed spaces. These lively depictions evidencing the powerful capability by the poet to observe and comment take different meaning when examined from different views. Indeed, the religious-mystic, social and sentimental interpretations make it possible to reveal the enriched beauty of these poems, saving them from ostentation and rendering them expressions of universal feelings of human beings.
