The article reports that Valero Energy Corp. is putting its faith in plastic, with a new proprietary gift card program. Customers may buy the prepaid cards for as little as $5 and as much as $300. Available at Valero's U.S. based company-operated stores, including more than 4,700 retail and wholesale branded outlets operating under the brands Diamond Shamrock, Valero, Beacon, Shamrock and Ultramar, the cards can be used to purchase fuel or any convenience store item, except money orders and lottery tickets. It is especially convenient for customers who do not have credit cards, but want the convenience of a credit-like transaction at the pump and in the store.
