ABSTRACT
The article elucidates the importance of running an organization at low-operating costs. In a culture of conspicuous consumption, being frugal or thrifty is out of place, but it has its own benefits. A thrifty leader is the worthy steward who spends prudently to ensure his company's value to investors. It is exactly because rigorous thriftiness guides their behavior that certain companies are far more valuable than their competitors. But there is more to thrift than awareness of cost and a focus on not overspending.
