ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the U.S. steel imports. According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, March 2005 steel imports fell 6.3 percent from February. During the first quarter, however, imports increased nearly 20 percent from last year. Steel imports in March totaled 2.52 million tons, versus 2.69 million tons in February 2005--but up 3.7 percent compared to March 2004. Semi-finished imported products increased by 4.6 percent in March 2005 compared to a year earlier. Current import market conditions suggest that imports will continue to moderate in coming months as a result of international prices flattening, reducing opportunities for trade, especially in commodity grade products.
