ABSTRACT
Ludwigshafen, Germany-based chemical company BASF AG has started up its new polytetrahydrofuran plant at the integrated production site at the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park in Caojing, China. A new proprietary technology for tetrahydrofuran production is being used by BASF in Caojing. In this process, butane is used as a raw material for manufacturing tetrahydrofuran, which is then used to produce polytetrahydrofuran. With the opening of the plant, BASF will primarily supply Chinese elastane yarn manufacturers. The new plant supplement the company's network of tetrahydrofuran and polytetrahydrofuran production sites around the world.
