The article focuses on issues relate to the factoring services industry in Europe, as of March 1, 2005. Although the industry's governing body, the Factors and Invoice Discounters Association, provides a comprehensive set of best practice guidelines for its members, there are currently no legal restraints shaping the activities of factoring organizations and the industry remains unregulated. The business world is changing and against the background of legislation coming out of the European Union, the freedom and flexibility of self-regulation currently enjoyed by factoring organizations is probably coming to an end.
