Some of the test results of KEK ECR charge breeder made for KEK–JAERI RNB facility are presented and discussed. The charge breeding efficiencies for singly charged ions of noble gases have been measured; typically 13.5% of Ar9+, 10.4% of Kr12+, and 6.8% of Xe20+ with a global efficiency...

SPIRAL2 is the new project under construction at GANIL to produce radioactive ion beams and in particular neutron rich ion beams. For the past 10 yr SPIRAL1 at GANIL has been delivering accelerated radioactive ion beams of gases. Both facilities now need to extend the range of radioactive ion...

The Cyclotron Institute at Texas A&M University is currently under an upgrade process. The plan is to produce re-accelerated radioactive ion beams using the recommissioned 88” Cyclotron as a driver and two different devices. The technique for producing radioactive species will be presented.

The ion injector chain for the LHC has to be adapted and modified to reach the design beam parameters. Up to now an ECR4 delivered the ion beam for the SPS fixed target physics programme. This source will be replaced by a higher intensity source to produce the Pb27+ ion current required to fill...

For over 20 years, Allison scanners have been used to measure emittances of low-energy ion beams. We show that scanning large trajectory angles produces ghost signals caused by the sampled beamlet impacting on an electric deflection plate. The ghost signal strength is proportional to the amount...

The viability of the “volume”-effect for enhancing the high-charge-state populations and intensities of beams extracted from ECR ion sources has been clearly demonstrated at several laboratories. Enlarged ECR zones have been achieved by engineering the central magnetic field so that...
