ABSTRACT
Offers insights on the iconoclasm and the creation of images in Emanuel de Witte's painting called Old Church in Amsterdam, South Aisle to the East. Elaboration on the possibilities of the genre's paradoxes through a contrast between the de Witte painting and other architectural paintings of churches; Appropriation of the term realistic imaginary from the history of style and expansion of its possible meanings; Realignment of the relation between artist and image.
