Directional acoustic source based on the resonant cavity of two-dimensional phononic crystals

ABSTRACT
We report a design of a highly-directional acoustic source, formed by placing a line acoustic source inside a planar cavity of two-dimensional phononic crystals. Radiation field with a half-power angular width of less than 6° is obtained. The operating frequency of the directional acoustic source can be extended to any required value within the full bandgap by adjusting the separation of the cavity.
