The article reports on the increasing interest shown by private equity firms (PEF) in buying dental practice management companies. According to Paul Murphy, a partner at the PEF Sentinel Capital Partners, the dental industry is a healthcare services business, but there are also retail elements to it, and that is what interests these firms. PEFs that understand the retail sector, and also understand the healthcare services sector, are attracted to the dental industry because it is the intersection of retail and healthcare.
