ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the sales performance of Bestar, a ready-to-assemble furniture producer. Bestar cited a lack a new product as a major reason for a 12.8% drop in first-quarter sales to Canadian $9.95 million. The net loss in the quarter was Canadian $107,000, or 1 Canadian cent per share, an improvement over the net loss of Canadian $246,000, or 2 Canadian cents per share, in 2004's initial period. The revision of the cost structure prompted by the company's financial situation and the fall of the U.S. dollar has led to a 50% decrease in direct and indirect labor costs.
