ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the efforts of several light emitting diodes (LED) manufacturers to improve the state of LED. Lumileds Lighting hopes to improve several applications in the automotive industry. The company is involved in stop and turn-signal applications, moving shortly to front illumination and headlights. Lumitex Inc., on the other hand, has developed a modular light guide that spreads light out over a wide flat area. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has come up with a design for mobile displays that are 10 inches or smaller and allow viewing of ultra-sharp liquid crystal display images.
