This article reports on the increase in online advertising spending, according to a study conducted by eMarketer Inc. as of March 2005. The study, entitled The Retail Industry: Online Advertising Spending and Trends, said that online advertising spending continues to grow as more retailers start to see the Internet as necessary component of brand advertising. That growth is reflected in both dollars spent and percentage of traditional retailers' advertising budgets. The study, from New York-based online firm eMarketer Inc. aggregates the latest research data from more than 1,700 sources. It predicts that for 2005, online advertising spending will increase by 20.2% and reach $11.3 billion by the end of the year. As a result, Internet advertising is expected to account for 4.0% of all U.S. advertising spending during 2005, up from about 3.5% in 2004.
