ABSTRACT
The article reports that the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Energy have jointly announced the availability of $14.3 million in grants for value-added agribusiness ventures, with priority consideration to applications that dedicate at least 51% of the project costs to research, development, and demonstration of biomass-based products, bioenergy, biofuels, biopower, and related processes. The competitively-awarded grants are available to farmers, agricultural production groups, farmer or rancher cooperatives, and majority controlled producer-based business ventures for either one of two types of activities: plans for establishing a feasible value-added marketing opportunity for an agricultural product; or working capital to operate a value-added business venture that will allow producers to compete better in domestic and international markets.
