ABSTRACT
This article presents information about various developments related to the computer software industry. The company Arts PDF this week is releasing what it calls the first true Adobe Acrobat alternative, "Nitro PDF Desktop," a PDF creation and editing product designed and priced for business users. Priced at $99, the computer software gives users control over PDF documents, including commenting, form-filling and authoring, digital signatures, text editing, and one-click creation from Microsoft Office. Montavista Software Inc. will soon start shipping a Linux operating system designed for mobile phones that the company said will increase flexibility and cut costs for handset manufacturers. "Mobilinux 4.0," based on the Linux 2.6 kernel, is scalable from lower-end handsets to higherend smart phones. Dell announced last week the Dell/EMC NS500, its new network-attached storage gateway. Built in partnership with EMC, the NAS gateway lets businesses move file and block data into a single storage pool. The gateway features automated failover software, cache vaulting and data scrubbing.
