ABSTRACT
Discusses several books from consumer health publishers that could be of special interest to baby boomers who are aiming for more longevity. Collins Wellness, one of five new imprints under HarperCollins's recently U.S.-launched Collins division, is publishing You: The Owner's Manual; The Insider's Guide to the Body That Will Make You Healthier and Younger, by internist and anti-aging author Michael F. Roizen and noted surgeon and integrated medicine expert Mehmet C. Oz. You is a preventative care text that takes an authoritative but light-hearted approach to understanding your own body. In June, McGraw-Hill's recently launched consumer health publishing venture with Harvard Medical School will issue The Harvard Medical School Guide to Overcoming Thyroid Problems. Authored by Harvard's Jeffrey Garber, M.D., a leading thyroid expert, this guide instructs readers on how to monitor thyroid hormone irregularities through the different phases of their lives. Potential Dorian Grays seeking eternal youth can get advice from leading anti-aging physician Philip Lee Miller's The Life Extension Revolution: The New Science of Growing Older Without Aging, which offers inspiring case studies and an individualized program for a longer and healthier life. To make the plethora of online information more accessible, Haworth Press this July is publishing reference librarian M. Sandra Wood's The Internet Guide to Cosmetic Surgery for Women, while New York Times writer Alex Kuczynski questions the ethics of such often drastic procedures in Beauty Junkies: Inside Our $15 Billion Obsession with Cosmetic Surgery.
