ABSTRACT
The article discusses the functions and responsibilities of a business development team in a law firm. If a business development function is set up and managed in a smart way, it need not cost too much. Neither need it be obtrusive or offensive to those partners who have still to get with the programme. It is necessary to think of business development as merely a strategy by which to achieve the firm's business objectives. The key is to conduct activity that is targeted properly, with individuals within the firm being responsible for the delivery of these targets.
