The article reports that Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s decision to open its own branded gas stations in locations across the U.S. triggered concerns about the effect on nearby convenience stores' sales. Mike Berghdahl, a business coach, speaker and former Wal-Mart employee, said that a typical Wal-Mart Supercenter will gobble up as much as seven convenience stores' volume of gasoline sales. Wal-Mart's new plan to use private-label fuel could eventually affect as many as 1,000 locations across the country.
