ABSTRACT
The author reflects on the prevailing timelessness that keeps the volumes of Journal of Financial Planning on financial planners' bookshelves and provided research background for academics and content for the media. And when it comes to research, the journal makes frequent appearances in the reference lists of technical papers. Along with readers' comments, we are able to gauge the use of our articles through our reprint service, permission to reprint and permission to link to articles in our online archives. A 2005 journal article that has received considerable media attention is Jonathan Guyton's Decision Rules and Portfolio Management: Is the Safe Initial Withdrawal Rate Too Safe? Media impressions are measured by a publication's circulation. Since the beginning of 2004, coverage based on articles appearing in the journal made nearly 15.5 million impressions, meaning our words potentially reached close to 15.5 million people. The journal is a resource for providers of knowledge in financial planning, in whatever form that knowledge is conveyed.
