ABSTRACT
This article reports that the world premiere of Noah Haidle's risk-taking play Princess Marjorie, the West Coast premiere of Eric Coble's play Bright Ideas, and the highly anticipated Orange County premiere of The Lion King offered diverse, imaginative, often entertaining, yet ultimately disappointing options for Southern California audiences these past few weeks. Marjorie is the teenage fantasy of her two cousins and virtually every other male referenced in the play, until she has the audacity to grow up, marry a stuffy English professor, and return to her hometown. Director David Chambers managed to milk the humor, make sense out of the bizarre plot, and control the rowdy self-indulgence of Haidle's characters.
