ABSTRACT
The article reports on the 2005 Annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference and Exhibition. It was a flood of highbrow technology geeks and smooth-talking sales representatives at the exhibitions. The No. 1 topic at the conference was the development of an electronic medical record, which is expected to improve patient safety greatly by giving clinicians easy and quick access to a patient's complete medical history. According to the annual HIMSS survey of ClOs, EMR technology will be the most important application for hospitals over the next two years.
