ABSTRACT
This article presents information on gastroretentive effect in drug release. The development of pharmacy has led to a number of technical solutions ensuring a gastroretentive effect in the drug release. However, only a small fraction of these solutions have been technologically implemented so that the corresponding drugs could reach the stage of clinical investigations. Moreover, even drugs with controlled release that have successfully passed these tests meet difficulties and doubts in their implementation into clinical practice. One of the main difficulties in the development of controlled- release drugs is low reproducibility and poor predictability of compositions ensuring the optimum concentration of the parent substance in the blood plasma of patients.
