The article reports that few organizations can claim a breadth of history equal that of the U.S. Naval Institute. The institute has a history of 132 years of continuous operation, 1,226 issues of its flagship publication, and 107 years of publishing books through the Naval Institute Press and more than 100 years of essay contests. To honor and build on this distinguished heritage, the Naval Institute inaugurated a new signature donor association. The 1873 Society will be comprised of individuals who make significant annual gifts in support of the Naval Institute's mission.
