The article comments on the article "Enhancing the inscription rate of surface relief gratings with an incoherent assisting light beam" published in the 2004 issue of the journal "Applied Physics Letters." The mechanism of the enhancement should be investigated at much lower light intensities at which the temperature increase can definitely be neglected. Alternatively, the grating amplitudes should be compared under the condition that the total intensity with and without the assisting beam is equal.
