ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the driverless bus being introduced by Japan in the World Expo 2005, which opened in Japan. These buses have been developed by engineers at Toyota Motor Corp. The so-called Intelligent Multimode Transit System uses some of Toyota's latest Intelligent Transportation Systems technology. This includes the use of high frequency radar to maintain a fixed distance between buses, and detect obstructions on the road ahead. The company claimed that this technology makes the construction and maintenance costs much lower than railway or tram systems.
