ABSTRACT
The article reports that Credit Suisse First Boston Corp. (CSFB) has stopped competing with its clients in the private equity business. Last week, CSFB announced that its private equity division, DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, which the firm had considered spinning off, would continue to operate with a focus on mid-market buyouts and only selective investments in larger deals. The decision undoubtedly aided CSFB's relations with clients, and may have played a factor in its securing the advisory role for SunGard Data Systems Inc., whose $10.8 billion LBO is the second-largest ever done.
