ABSTRACT
The article cites a study related to the efficacy and safety of peginterferon α-2a monotherapy, peginterferon α-2a plus lamivudine and lamivudine monotherapy in patients with hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-negative chronic hepatitis B. In patients with hepatitis B e antigen-negative chronic hepatitis B, peginterferon α-2a monotherapy and peginterferon α-2a plus lamivudine increased rates of normalization of alanine aminotransferase levels and suppression of hepatitis B virus DNA levels to < 20 000 copies/mL. The study was published in the 2004 issue of the "New England Journal of Medicine."
