ABSTRACT
Reports on the White House proposal to provide no federal funding for Amtrak in fiscal 2006 unless U.S. Congress reforms the railroad's structure and to cut $500 million from airport improvement grants. Reaction of Senator Christopher S. Bond to the proposal; Recommendation of President George W. Bush to eliminate all federal subsidies to the railroad except for the amount that would be provided to the Department of Transportation's Surface Transportation Board to maintain commuter service on the Northeast Corridor if the railroad goes bankrupt; Threat of the administration to push the railroad into bankruptcy if the legislators do not enact the proposed Amtrak reform bill.
