ABSTRACT
This review summarizes the principle, advantages, and limitations of Doppler ultrasound flowmeters, and discusses the possibilities of applying these systems in evaluating the functional state of the peripheral arterial circulation. This discussion is not limited to the assessment of blood flow velocity and poststenotic arterial pressure with Doppler flowmeters, but includes among other things the recording of flow patterns, the determination of the transit time of velocity wave forms, and the imaging of the arterial circulation.

Under certain conditions laser Doppler flowmeter (LDF) signals obtained from the finger pulp may appear very similar to those obtained by use of a direct current (dc) photoplethysmograph (PPG). Objective: To assess the accuracy of ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI) assessed by photoplethysmography (PPG) compared with continuous wave Doppler (CWDoppler). Methods: Ankle brachial pressure index was measured in a standard manner using both PPG and Doppler probes. For PPG-ABPI, a PPG...

Long-standing painless intussusception in adults is considered to be rare. We report three such cases with an emphasis on color Doppler results. In our three cases the indication for abdominal US was a palpable mass in all these cases, and intussusception was detected by US at a time when the...

Surface Integration of Velocity Vectors is a colour Doppler control volume technique for blood flow measurements. Factors such as colour flow gain (CFG), pulse repetition frequency (PRF) and the number of imaging planes may however affect the quality of measurements. Our aim was to describe how...
