ABSTRACT
A method is described for the preparation of smooth muscle strips from resistance vessels 200 to 300 � in diameter. Contractions were recorded when such preparations were stimulated by various physiologically vasocative agents. Individuality of the responses of smooth muscle obtained from mesenteric, renal, pulmonary and cerebral resistance vessels was demonstrated when they were stimulated with epinephrine, norcpincphrine, 5-hydroxytryptamine, angiotensin II amide or vasopressin. Smooth muscle from all resistance vessels responded similarly when stimulated with potassium chloride.
