ABSTRACT
This article focuses on wireline telephone market. The growing use of cell phones, the migration to voice over IP (VOIP) solutions, and the transition of dialup modem lines to DSL or cable modem services are all contributing to what was once an unthinkable outcome, the pending demise of the traditional local telephone market. The Big Four are all planning the introduction of Triple Play combinations, but they are using significantly different network architectures to deliver that all-important service package. The National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) developed the basic format for video encoding in the U.S. and a standard-definition signal requires a 6-MH/ analog transmission channel.
