ABSTRACT
The article reports that institutions still grappling over whether or how to extend instant messaging (IM) to their employees have some new worries to mull: IM might be particularly virus prone. IT player Akonix Systems Inc., which admittedly sells what it calls secure IM products, says organizations with unmanaged IM are at risk for attacks. In January of this year, 10 IM worms and their variants spread over the instant messaging networks, a 200 percent increase from the same period in 2004. Many banks are still undecided on the benefits of instant messaging.
