ABSTRACT
Large patches of myocardial necrosis, as well As hemorrhagic necrosis in the liver, can be elicited by combined treatment with sodium porchlorate (NaClO4) and 2α-methyl-9α-chlorocortisol (Me-Cl-COL), in the nit. In this respect, the effect of the perchlorate resembles that previously described for phosphates. It differs from that of most of the other sodium salts that have been tested for this activity. NaCl can actually inhibit the cardiotoxic and hepatotoxic effects of concurrent treatment with NaClO4 plus Me-Cl-COL. Equimolecular amounts of MgCl2 or KCl are even considerably more effective in this respect. These observations clearly show that in animals conditioned by a highly active corticoid, such as Me-Cl-COL, the production of an ‘infarctoid cardiopathy’ (as well as of the accompanying hepatic changes) depends not only upon the sodium ion, but is influenced largely by the simultaneous presence of other anions and cations.

The addition of diluents to ionic liquids (ILs) has recently been shown to enhance the transport properties of ILs. In the context of electrolyte design, this enhancement allows the realisation of IL-based electrolytes for metal-air batteries and other storage devices. It is likely that diluent...
