ABSTRACT
The vascularization pattern of the brain parenchyma is an essentially centripetal one. From a peripheral network, the intracerebral arteries converge radially towards the ventricle. Our research revealed the existence of centrifugal arterioles, originating from subependymal arteries. The latter are branches of the several arteriae chorioideae and also of certain rami striati laterales. They penetrate into the brain parenchyma in a recurrent, diverging and ventriculofugal way. In the deeper layers of the cerebrum there exists a tridimensional border area between the centripetal vascular system, depending upon the periphery and centrifugal system originating from well defined deep branches. The centrifugal arterioles present undoubtedly a significant practical importance in hemorrhages and infarcts.
