ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the application of dextranomer beads in the treatment of exudating skin lesions. Dextranomer, a new and unique wound cleansing agent developed in Sweden, has recently been introduced to the U.S. medical community. This new device is supplied as dry beads ranging in diameter from 0.1-0.3 mm. The beads consist of cross-linked dextran molecules which form a network of three dimensional macromolecular chains. The article summarizes the results obtained from a cooperative study in which dextranomer was applied in the treatment of various types of suppurating conditions.
