ABSTRACT
This article presents information on the magazine Brill's Content. Brill's sold 200,000 subscriptions following an aggressive direct-mail response in 1998. With the February 1999 issue, the magazine raised its rate base to 225,000 from an initial 150,000. Still, Brill's is not selling anywhere near the half-million copies some industry analysts say it needs. Early predictions had circulation topping out at 250,000 but the periodical bets its circulation will reach 300,000 by the end of 1999. Meanwhile, its editorial has been relentlessly critiques. Critics have used terms like dull and self-important to describe its content.
