ABSTRACT
Increasing attention is being given to the vascular abnormalities in primary osteoarthritis of the hip. Phlebographic studies have been undertaken in a normal and an osteoarthritic group. The variations and abnormalities so obtained are described. Venous obstruction is recognized. Its significance as an etiologic factor in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis is discussed. The evidence points to venous obstruction and varicosity as a secondary phenomenon.
